WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH?

An Independent Baptist Church is a Bible believing, teaching and obeying church. We believe the basic Bible teachings for which Baptists have historically stood.

Independent Baptist churches have a long and glorious heritage. They existed long before the Protestant Reformation in both Europe and Asia.

Although through history many Independent Baptist church members have been persecuted and even slain for the faith, such churches have continued, and today there are many thousands of independent Baptist churches in all parts of the world.

As a Baptist church, we believe that the Bible is our sole authority for all matters of faith and practice.

We believe that baptism is by immersion for believers (Acts 8:37; Mark 1:9-11), and not for infants who are not yet able to believe.

As an Independent church, we are self-governing with no external ruling authority.

All churches in the New Testament were independent, autonomous, self-governing, and responsible only to God, rather than to an external hierarchy. In Revelation 2 and 3 for example, each church is accountable only to Jesus Christ.

The leading of the Lord is sought on all matters and this increases our dependence upon the Lord. Our church answers only to the headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational body.

We are therefore able to support missionaries, select leaders and support institutions that believe in accordance with our Statement of Faith.
